Oil palm is a very important commercial crop in South East Asia (SEA), especially in Malaysia and Indonesia. The crop has adapted extremely well to the local environment and has contributed significantly to the regional economy. The greatest threat to oil palm in SEA is pests (e.g. bagworm, Oryctes, nettle and termites) and devastating diseases (e.g. basal stem rot, vascular wilt and bud rot).
